FIVE ELEMENT ACUPUNCTURE

how does it work?

In today’s modern world, many of us have become quite disconnected from nature. Yet ultimately, we are beings of nature - not separate from it. Stay with me now…

Progress Rooted in Principle

The ancient Chinese closely observed the natural world and recognised that it follows clear patterns, understood as the Laws of Nature. For example, the seasons move from autumn to winter, spring and then summer- never the other way around.

The Five Elements; Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal are the foundation of life’s creation. Each element links to one of the seasons in nature, and each has its unique offering for nature to thrive. When these natural rhythms are working in harmony, there is balance and order in the world around us. When they are not, dis-ease (disease) occurs.

As an example, note how nature is always moving. Think of how rivers are always flowing. But if a river becomes blocked and can no longer flow freely, problems begin to arise- the water may overflow, stagnate, or become unhealthy over time. And if the water cannot flow, how can the wildlife- or we- survive without a proper water supply?

A similar principle applies within us.

In Chinese medicine, energy- known as Qi (Chi)- is the life force that flows within and around us. It moves within our bodies through specific channels called meridians. When this energy moves freely, our bodies are able to function as they should. But if the flow becomes blocked or uneven- much like a kink in a hosepipe- imbalance can occur.

When this happens, symptoms may begin to appear. At first, they may be subtle, but over time they can become more noticeable and affect both physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Five Element Acupuncture works by following Laws of Nature to guide us back into balance. It does so by using very fine needles to support the natural flow of Qi (energy)- allowing the body, mind and spirit to return to a healthier and more harmonious state.

Rather than focusing on symptoms individually, this style of acupuncture looks to address the root cause of imbalance. By treating the root, the benefits of treatment can affect any area where healing is needed.
